Police/Army-Community Relations

Police/army Community Relations is a project of Assure Uganda that focuses on establishing and strengthening the connections between human/environmental rights defenders, local communities and security organs like police and army. Over the years Uganda police and general security organs including army has been responsible for the shrinking civic space in Uganda. They use excessive force and live ammunition to block free people from attending their campaign rallies and disperse crowds during campaign meetings and gatherings Assure Uganda through dialogue, meetings, workshops and trainings with police have been advocating for spaces to freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, freedom of association and right to access information

The program is to identify, share and compare current mechanisms security stands on to crack down peaceful demonstrators or practices intended with each other for the purposes of getting those practices out more widely with the police.
